Loyalty credit
Updated September 30, 2026
In one sentence
Loyalty credit gives the customer back part of each purchase, as money to spend on their next visit.

How it works
You pick a percentage, for example 5%. On every purchase, the card sets aside 5% of the amount paid. The customer sees that amount as money on their card. They spend it in full or in part on their next visit. No math: they know right away what they have.
Credit or points
Points also reward spending. But customers can’t easily tell what they’re worth, and many never get used. According to the 2026 report from Antavo, a loyalty software vendor, 27% of points earned in 2025 were never spent. Credit suits businesses where purchase amounts vary a lot, like a bakery or a pet store. If every visit costs about the same, a stamp card stays simpler.
What it costs you
A 5% credit doesn’t really cost you 5%. Customers spend it on your products, and those products cost you less than their selling price. The profitability calculator helps you choose a percentage your margin allows.
A bakery gives back 5% as credit. A customer pays $24: her card shows $1.20 in credit. On her next visit, her purchase comes to $10 and she uses her credit: she pays $8.80.
