Loyalty QR code

Updated September 30, 2026

In one sentence

A loyalty QR code is the square to scan that, depending on where it is shown, either signs a customer up or identifies a member’s card at the counter.

A bakery counter stacked with bread and pastries

Two codes, two jobs

The sign-up code is printed on a poster or a table tent: the customer scans it with the phone camera and adds the card in a few seconds. The member code shows on the card in the phone: staff scan it to add a stamp or hand over a reward.

What it contains

A good member code holds no name, phone number or balance: only an identifier the business’s system can read. So that a screenshot cannot be passed around, the code can change every few seconds, like one-time security codes.

Example

At a restaurant counter, a table tent carries the sign-up code. When paying, the customer shows their card and the server scans the member code with the counter tablet.
