Wallet pass

In one sentence
A wallet pass is a card, ticket or coupon that lives in the phone’s wallet and updates remotely, with no app.

How it is made
At Apple, the pass is a small signed file that holds the card’s text, colours, logo and a code to scan; the signature proves it comes from the issuer. At Google, the pass is stored in Google’s systems and linked to the customer’s account. Either way, the customer only sees a card with their name on it.
Why it helps loyalty
The pass can change after it is added: the stamp count goes up, a reward appears, a message shows. The customer has nothing to reopen or update. There are several kinds of passes: store or loyalty card, coupon, event ticket, boarding pass. A loyalty card uses the kind meant for store cards.
A café creates a “Regulars' card” pass. After each drink, the pass shows one more stamp out of ten; at the tenth, it announces that the next drink is free.
